Buyer question / selection note

Should I choose wet or dry magnetic separation for iron ore?

Choose from measured feed state, liberation size, magnetic response, water balance, and product targets. MarsCrusher currently publishes five CTB wet-drum models covering 15–140 t/h with listed drum-surface fields of at least 120–135 mT; a dry route needs separate dry-feed testwork and equipment data.

01 / Decision summary

Quick takeaways

  1. 01The current MarsCrusher range is CTB wet-drum equipment: five models, 15–140 t/h.
  2. 02Published drum-surface field values are ≥120 mT or ≥135 mT, depending on model.
  3. 03Dry-route comparison requires a representative dry-feed test; no dry model is implied by the CTB data.
  4. 04Grade and recovery remain testwork outputs, not catalogue specifications.

02 / Published model data

The wet-drum models this catalogue actually covers

MarsCrusher currently publishes five CTB permanent-magnet wet-drum models, not a dry-separator range. Use this table to bound the wet route; a dry-route proposal needs its own dry-feed test and comparable equipment data.

Selection guidance

01

First gate: what state reaches the separator?

If grinding or classification already produces slurry, a wet drum can avoid an added drying step. Naturally dry, coarse pre-concentration duties may justify a dry route, but moisture variation and dust control must be included in that test rather than assumed away.

02

Second gate: prove separation at the intended size

Run magnetic characterization and separation tests on representative ore domains at the proposed liberation size. Record feed grade, concentrate grade, recovery, mass pull, moisture or slurry density, and repeatability. A single magnetic-susceptibility number cannot size the production circuit.

03

Third gate: compare equivalent equipment boundaries

For the wet route, shortlist CTB models by measured solids flow and drum loading, then check tank flow, distribution across drum width, water balance, field test record, and access for liner work. Compare a dry proposal with the same feed sample and product targets rather than comparing nameplate tonnes alone.

Frequently asked questions

01
Does MarsCrusher publish a dry magnetic-separator model on this page?
No. The published equipment data on this page covers the CTB wet-drum range. A dry option should be supported by its own model sheet and representative dry-feed test results.
02
Is the listed magnetic field enough to predict recovery?
No. The ≥120–135 mT values describe the listed drum surface field. Recovery also depends on mineralogy, liberation, particle size, feed stability, drum loading, and tank configuration.
03
What data is needed before selecting a CTB model?
Provide a size distribution, solids flow, slurry density, magnetic test results, feed and target grades, recovery target, water balance, and the intended rougher, cleaner, or scavenger duty.

Review model specifications and application limits before requesting a quote so the supplier can check the recommendation against a defined duty.

01

CTB Magnetic Separator

The CTB wet-drum magnetic separator is intended for strongly magnetic minerals such as magnetite and for selected iron-removal duties. Recovery and concentrate grade depend on mineralogy, liberation size, field strength, drum loading, and tank configuration.

02

Ball Mill

Ball mills for wet or dry grinding after crushing in copper, gold, iron ore, graphite, and limestone circuits. Overflow or grate-discharge configurations can serve primary grinding, regrinding, or closed-classifier loops before flotation, magnetic separation, or gravity recovery.

A useful reply needs the inputs that control feed acceptance, reduction ratio, product split, and real hourly duty.
